I found it in a drawer, a book I recognized
I'd read it as a child, tales from another time
I'd always thought the stories were a bit too familiar...
The raging sea, the roaring wind
(We'd lost all sight of land, caught inside a ruthless storm)
The crew lost hope, the ship caved in
(My pride was just too strong, never let us just turn back)
The water's hands, they grabbed me tight
(Never again will I hold, the ones I left back home)
My final breath, then fade to white
(Was this the me before this life?)
Walking past the displays, an unknown artifact
A distant memory, my reoccurring nightmare...
My weakening legs, the sweltering sun
(Pulling limestone brick by brick, underneath the eyes of Ra)
The Gods see all, no where to run
(Why work until we bleed, just to aid a merciless king?)
The desert sands, they stole my sight
(Each step upon this Earth, I hoped would be my last)

BBT are standard bearers for modern prog, with a sound that evokes the spirit of those legendary 70s bands whilst managing to also be thoroughly contemporary. It's astonishing that over 30 minutes of music of this quality, with such high production values, is being made available for free - and their full albums are also very reasonably priced...

If I comprehend the gist of the lyrics right, I’d say there’s probably a lot of folks who’d relate to them now, during the current pandemic, pondering life/death while isolating. I still need to listen to a lot of Phideaux’s catalogue, but my intuition tells me this one will be near the top of my favourite Phideaux albums list when I’m done, if not at the apex. This is a great conceptual prog rock album. I’m late to the party, but better late than never! 8.5+/10.
